JULY 29, 2012– MIDDLEBORO, MA – The Wingbuster Summer Fly Off attracted seven pilots for a day of Formula GX action. The weather was humid with cloud cover and temperatures in the mid seventies. There was an on and off light drizzle that got a little more persistent towards contest end. The grounds at the Wingbuster control line facility were manicured and very green.

Round one action saw Paul Kubek earn a two cut win over Jake Vader. Next, Neil Simpson got past Joe Fustolo two cuts to one in a five minute action filled round one battle. Paul and Neil faced off in round two with Neil earning a two cuts to one victory. Round two also saw Brian Stas jump into contention with a two cuts to one win over Joe. Neil and Brian started round three with an early match mid-air that brought them back towards the field. Next Joe got a two cuts to one win over Paul that tightened things further. Going into the final round Neil, Joe and Paul were in a virtual tie with Brian and Chris Sarnowski in very close pursuit. Brian’s final round match was a fly-away that hurt his chances. Next, Joe flew Jake Vader to a one cut apiece tie, both pilots flying well in an action filled match. The score was enough to give Joe the clubhouse lead. Next, Jeff Vader got a two cut win over Paul hurting Paul’s chances in the process. In the final Neil and Chris faced off. Lots of action early with Neil earning a cut and then, a mid air knocked both pilots out of contention for the contest win.The final order of finish was Joe, Paul, Neil, Brian and Chris. Jake took home the Sportsman “gold”.
