OCTOBER 3, 2004 - MIDDLEBORO, MA – The temperture was cool, the air crisp, however, the sun was warm, a great New England October day, a great day for Formula GX combat. The Wingbuster club field was, as usual, in perfect shape, thanks to the efforts of Norm and Mel, the club members in charge of the grounds. Twelve New England pilots were in attendance and ready for action.

Round one saw Ken Hargreaves get off to the best start with an 830 point three cut win. Brian Stas and Neil Simpson were both out of the gate fast, as well, posting scores in excess of 700 points. In round two Neil stayed hot, just getting past Matt Stas with a two cut to one win that was action filled, buzzer to buzzer. At the halfway point it was Neil followed by Rick Clark, who had turned in two good flights, followed by Joe Fustolo, Ken Hargreaves, Jeff Vader and Matt Stas who were bunched, about one hundred points behind Rick.

In the first match of round three Neil earned a one cut win over Rick Clark. Round two saw Joe and Ken mid-air hurting their cumulative scores while Paul Kubek improved his position with a two cut to one win over Brian Stas. Round two also saw Matt Stas and Jeff Vader fly to a one cut apiece draw. Going into the final round Neil had 2070 points followed by Jeff (1535pts ), Matt (1530pts), Paul (1435pts)and Rick (1430pts). Shaylene , who was having a great day, was also sitting at 1430 points followed by Ken, Brian and Joe, who were all within range, as well.

Early in round four Ken and Joe each got three cut wins to secure the clubhouse lead. In the semi final match Matt hooked up with Paul. The match started a little slow and then the action picked up with Matt getting a cut and then a second. The second cut pressed Paul into hot pursuit and he got a cut and then a second to earn a draw in a very well flown, action filled match. In the final Neil edged out Jeff with a one cut win in a match that also had some good action. The final order of finish was Neil (2795pts), Ken (2160pts), Matt (2145pts),and Joe (2060pts). Shaylene Vader finished seventh overall, with 1830 points, taking home the Sportsman gold in the process.
