OCTOBER 22, 2005 - MIDDLEBORO, MA – The temperatures were cool, the sky was cloud covered with occasional drizzle in the morning giving way to a steady light rain by early afternoon. The Wingbuster club field was, as always, in great shape.
F2D was the first event. Mark Rudner,as usual, was the class of the field. In round one Mark got past Ken Hargreaves, in a long action filled match. Round two saw him have a similar match with Neil Simpson. Mark prevailed two cuts to one. Meanwhile, Brian Stas was also winning his matches until only he and Mark remained undefeated. In the end Mark was too much for Brian, getting past him, as well, in the final two matches. Mark finished first, Brian second and Ken Hargreaves third.
Half A Combat was next. Round one started with a good match between Ken Hargreaves and Neil Simpson. Ken got a cut early, followed by some good action and then a cut by Neil, however, the streamer choked off Neil’s venture. When he got back up there was furious action with Neil getting a kill in the final minute. Round two saw Ken come back and get a hard earned win over Rick Clark. Rick then got a kill over Neil Simpson, in round three, to stay in the hunt. In the next round Ken got past Rick to set up a final between Neil and Ken. It was a war with each man getting a large cut and then, all out twisting and turning as each pilot searched for a kill. After some great action the airplanes became entangled with Neil getting a kill in the process. Ken and Rick ended up tied for second, with Ken winning the fly-off.
