AUGUST 23, 2009 – EAST HAMPTON, CT –  Seven  New England combat pilots were on hand for this one.  The weather was mostly sunny and warm with little or no breeze.

Brian Stas and Jeff Vader  jumped into the early lead with two cut round one wins. Glenn Simpson and Neil Simpson, who had flown each other to a one cut apiece draw in the first round, each scored two cut round two wins and shared the lead at the halfway point. Round three started with Brian, who was just behind the leaders, flying Neil to a one cut apiece draw. In the next match Jeff got a one cut win over Glenn. Meanwhile Joe Fustolo used a two cut round three win to earn a share of the contest lead with Neil. Going into the final round Joe and Neil had 1745 points, Brian had 1635 points, Jeff had 1545 points while Glenn was within range at 1435 points.

There were three significant matches in the final round. First, Glenn got the clubhouse lead with a one cut win over Chris Sarnowski. Next Brian and Joe waged a full five minute war with Brian earning a two cut win. In the final Jeff and Neil had an excellent match with Neil squeaking out a one cut win. When the dust settled, Neil was first, by the narrowest of margins, followed by Brian, Joe, Glenn and Jeff. On this day Jake Vader took home the “Sportsman Gold”.
