JULY 12, 2009-WRENTHAM, MA-This weekend marked the annual running of “Ron Connors Memorial Stunt Trials”. This year the New England Stunt Team, again, invited the New England Combat Association to run a combat contest as part of their fine event. A Formula GX event was scheduled and twelve combat pilots were on hand to accept their generous invitation.

Round one saw Jim Carpenter and Paul Kubek get off to fast starts posting two cut wins. Neil Simpson and Joe Fustolo were just off that pace with one cut 620 point wins. In round two Jim and Paul faced each other in a match that , unfortunately, ended in a mid air early. In the next match Neil earned a one cut win over Joe, in a well flown match. Meanwhile Glenn Simpson, Brian Stas and Jeff Vader were all putting in good round two wins to move into contention. In round three Neil earned a one cut win over Glenn while Joe was getting past Paul, also, with a one cut win. Round three also saw Brian and Jeff fly to a 410 point draw. Also, in round three Dick Sherman posted his second good win, this one over Matt Stas. Going into round four it was Neil (1860pts), Joe (1540pts), Brian (1440pts), Dick (1340pts), Jeff (1335pts), Glenn (1330pts) and Paul (1225pts). In the third to last match of the contest Jeff got a two cut win over Glenn in a match that ended late in a mid-air. In the semi final match Joe got an airtime win over Dick and Neil did the same against Brian in the finals. The final order of finish was Neil, Joe, Jeff, Paul with Brian and Chris tied for fifth. Richard Sherman got past Jake Vader to take home the sportsman “gold”..
