OCTOBER 11, 2009 – LEOMINSTER, MA – Ten contestants were on hand to participate in this annual event. The weather conditions were clear, seasonably warm with a cool and sometimes pesky wind. However, add in the fact that the fall foliage was at or near peak and you definitely had an enjoyable New England day. A good day for GX combat.

At the end of round one, Neil Simpson had the early lead posting a 725 point, two cut win. Jeff Vader was in close pursuit with a one cut round one win. In round two Neil and Jeff faced off against each other with Neil squeaking out a two cut to one win. In the next match Dick Sherman and his son Richard faced off and Dick got passed Richard two cuts to one. At the halfway point Neil and Dick were running one and two. The were matched up in round three and Neil, with some serious help from the combat gods, came away with a two cut win. Later in round three Glenn Simpson used a two cut win, of his own, to move into contention. Paul Kubek was also flying steady and was in the hunt as the contest moved toward round four. Going into the final round it was Neil followed by Glenn, Jeff, Paul and Dick. It would come down to the final three matches. In the first of these matches Dick and Joe Fustolo mid-aired just past halfway, in the match, hurting both their cumulative scores. Next Glenn and Jeff flew to a 510 point draw. In the final Neil and Paul flew to a low scoring draw. When it all sorted out the final order of finish was Neil (2585pts), Glenn (2145pts), Jeff (1940pts), Paul (1840pts), and Richard Sherman (1830pts) Richard’s fifth place overall also earned him the Sportsman “gold”.

Thanks go out to Lloyd Seymour who promoted and CD’ed this annual event. Also a special Thank You to Lloyd’s wife, Cheryl, who invited us back to her house, at day’s end, for food and drink. Thank You Cheryl, you treat us way too well.
