Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge

NEIL SIMPSON, BRIAN STAS
& GLENN SIMPSON ARE TOP THREE

SPORTSMAN TO JAKE VADER

JUNE 26, 2011 – EAST HAMPTON, CT – This was the eighth annual Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge held in tribute to and in memory of our good friend and fellow competitor. The weather was  warm and sunny with a gentle breeze. Six contestants made the trip to the Salmon River State Forest and enjoyed a day of very competitive combat.

Round one saw Neil Simpson get off to the best start followed very closely by Jake Vader, Chris Sarnowski and Brian Stas. Neil and Jake faced off in round two with Neil managing a one cut win. Next, Chris got past Brian by the same score. Also in round two, Paul Kubek jumped into contention. Paul took advantage when Glenn Simpson got a bad engine run and tallied three cuts. At the halfway point it was Neil followed closely by Chris and Paul. Round three started with Neil earning a one cut win over Chris. Next, Brian jumped back into contention when he earned a two cut to one win over Paul. Going into round four it was Neil with 1860 points followed by Chris and Brian with 1530 points. Paul was close with 1430 points while Glenn and Jake were flying steady and weren’t far behind Paul. Round four started with Glenn getting a one cut win over Jake in a very competitive match. Next Paul and Chris mid-aired hurting both their chances. In the final Neil and Brian had a highly competive action filled match that ended in a one cut apiece draw. When the dust settled Neil had the contest win with Brian in second and Glenn third. The sportsman division winner was Jake Vader from Franklin, New Hampshire.

Thank You, to everyone who participated and to those who shared in the judging. A special thank you to Ernie Carosella who donated an engine, that we auctioned off, the proceeds going into the contest fund.
