JUNE 27, 2010 – EAST HAMPTON, CT – This was the seventh annual Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge held in tribute to and in memory of our good friend and fellow competitor. The weather was warm and very humid. Nine contestants made the trip to the Salmon River State Forest and enjoyed a day of very competitive combat.

Round one saw Dana Lord and Chris Sarrnowski get off to good starts posting 725 point and 620 point win respectively, while the rest of the field struggled. Dana and Chris, faced off in round two and flew to a very low scoring draw. This seemed to open things up for the rest of the field, but no, the next three matches ended in mid-airs early so Dana and Chris held their leads at the halfway point. Round three started with Jeff Vader getting past Dana with an airtime win. Next Joe Fustolo and Chris faced off. The match was tied a cut apiece when Chris got a second cut late to grab the win and the outright contest lead. In the final round three match Neil Simpson, after a very bad start, got a two cut win over Paul Kubek to stay within range. Going into round four it was Chris with 1555 points followed by Neil (1325pts), Dana (1235pts), Jeff (1230pts), Joe (1110pts), Brian Stas (1020pts) and Glenn Simpson (1010pts). Early in round four Brian got a 620 point win over Jake Vader to put some pressure on the field. Next Jeff and Glenn mid-aired hurting both their chances. In the semi-final Joe got a 620 point win over Dana to put himself on the trophy stand. In the final Chris and Neil had a good match going. Neil managed a cut about midway through that stood up for both the match and contest win. When the dust settled the final order of finish was Neil, Chris and Joe. The sportsman division winner was Jake Vader from Franklin, New Hampshire.

Thank You, to everyone who participated and to those who shared in the judging. A special thank you to Ernie Carosella who came and pitted for Dana Lord, who was flying with us for the first time in a long time. It was great to have both Ernie and Dana at the contest.
