Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge
NEIL SIMPSON, GLENN SIMPSON
& JOE FUSTOLO ARE TOP THREE
SPORTSMAN TO CHRIS SARNOWSKI
JUNE 22, 2008 – EAST HAMPTON, CT – This was the fifth annual Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge held in tribute to and in memory of our good friend and fellow competitor. The weather was partly cloudy, warm and humid with a threat of rain that we managed to avoid except for a couple of brief showers. Five contestants made the trip to the Salmon River State Forest and enjoyed a day of very competitive combat.
Round one saw Neil Simpson get off to a good start squeaking past Rick Clark two cuts to one. Joe Fustolo also had a good round one win. Joe and Neil faced off in round two in a match where there was a great deal of good flying, but some how no cuts, even though each pilot was in the other's streamer more then once. In the end Neil took the match on airtime. Round two also saw Glenn Simpson climb into contention with a two cut win. In round three Neil and Glenn flew to a one cut apiece draw while Joe earned a win over Rick two cuts to one. Going into the final round it was Neil (1755 pts), Joe (1445pts) and Glenn (1435pts). In the semi-final Glenn was leading by a cut when a mid air occurred. This allowed Neil to cruise to the contest win followed by Glenn, just a few points ahead of Joe. The sportsman division winner was Chris Sarnowski from Brookline, Massachusetts.
Thank You, to everyone who participated and to those who shared in the judging.
