JUNE 5, 2011 – FRANKLIN, NH – The Granite State Championships, this year, drew eight competitors. The event was hosted and cd’ed by Jeff Vader. As usual, Jeff had coffee and doughnuts waiting for everyone as we arrived. Weather conditions were warm and sunny with a slight breeze.

Round one saw Jeff Vader and Brian Stas get off to the best starts each posting 725 point wins. They met each other in round two and flew to a one cut apiece draw and each, in the process retained a share of the contest lead. Neil Simpson and Dick Sherman were flying steady and were not far off their pace at the halfway point. Round three started with Neil and Jeff flying to a one cut apiece draw. Brian and Dick also flew to a cut apiece draw, in the very next match, keeping things close atop the leader board.

Going into round four it was Jeff and Brian at 1745 points followed by Neil at 1655 points and Dick at 1540 points. In the semi final match Neil took the clubhouse lead with a one cut win over Brian. In the final Jeff emerged the winner over Dick, when with things tied at one cut apiece, Dick had the ground come up, leaving Jeff as the match and contest winner. When the scores were tabulated Jeff was first, Neil second and Brian third. Young Richard Sherman, on this day, got past Jake Vader to take home the sportsman “gold”. Both these kids are flying very well and making great progress. A head to head match between them ended in a one cut apiece draw and was very well flown.
