RICHARD SHERMAN TAKES SPORTSMAN

JUNE 20, 2010 – FRANKLIN, NH – The Granite State Championships, this year, drew eight competitors. The event was hosted and cd’ed by Jeff Vader.  As usual, Jeff  had coffee and doughnuts waiting for everyone as we arrived.  Weather conditions were very warm and  quite breezy, as the day progressed.

A low scoring round one saw Dick Sherman and Paul Kubek get off to the best starts each posting 620 point wins. They met each other  in round two with Dick getting a one cut win. Later in the round Neil Simpson and Brian Stas both posted good wins to move into contention.  Round three saw Dick get past Neil two cuts to one. Later Glenn Simpson got an airtime win over Brian. Also in round three Jeff Vader got past Paul Kubek  three cuts to two jumping into second place in the process.

Going into round four it was Dick (1765pts), Jeff  (1550pts),  Neil (1440pts), Glenn (1340pts), Paul (1325pts) and Brian (1225pts). In the semi final match of round four Neil put pressure on the leaders with a two cut to one win over Paul Kubek. In the final Jeff stayed hot earning a two cut to one win over Dick Sherman. When the scores were tabulated Jeff was first, Neil second and Dick third. Young Richard Sherman, on  this day, got past Jake Vader to take home the sportsman “gold”.
