Wingbuster Fall Fly Off

NEIL SIMPSON, BRIAN STAS & CHRIS SARNOWSKI
TAKE TOP THREE SPOTS

OCTOBER 25, 2015 – HALIFAX, MA – This was it, the final contest of the New England combat season. The weather was cloudy, seasonably warm with a very light breeze. This year’s event attracted five pilots to celebrate another successful 2015 Formula GX season.

Round one saw Matt Stas get off to the best start posting an 620 point win while the rest of the field started slowly. Matt posted another good score in round two flying Chris Sarnowski to a one cut apiece draw. Meanwhile Brian Stas and Neil Simpson, who had only posted 100 points apiece in round one, the result of a mid-air with each other, were trying to recover each posting 620 point one cut wins over Chris and Paul Kubek respectively. At the halfway point Matt had the clear lead with everyone else several hundred points behind. In round three Matt and Brian faced off. When this father/son team fly each other there are no holds barred. Unfortuately, the match, after some good flying early ended in a mid-air hurting Brian’s chances and bringing Matt back to the field. Also in round three Neil and Chris faced off in yet another action filled match with Neil prevailing two cuts to one. Going into the final round Neil had 1445 points, Matt had 1330 points with the rest of the field around 1100 points or less. In the final round Brian posted a two cut win while Chris posted a one cut win both pilots attempting to fly their way into contention. In the final Neil and Matt faced off. There was good action early, Neil managed a cut and then the ground came up on Matt damaging his airplane and costing him significant airtime. When the scores were tabulated Neil had secured the contest win, Matt had slipped to fourth, Brian was second just a few points ahead of Chris who finished third.
