AARON SEYMOUR WINS SPORTSMAN
OCTOBER 14, 2007 – WORCESTER, MA -Thirteen contestants were on hand for this, the nineteenth annual running of the Fall Finale Combat Tournament at Boynton Park in Worcester, Massachusetts. This contest was the thirteenth and final stop on this year’s New England Formula GX circuit, the end of the 2007 regular season. The weather was cool and breezy with temperatures toping out in the low sixties.
The best starts in round one were Phil Cartier with a three cut win, Brian Seymour with a two cut win and both Roy Glenn and Jeff Vader with one cut wins. Round two saw Louis Lopez jump into contention with a three cut win. In round three Louis stayed hot with a three cut win over Phil. Lloyd Seymour with a three cut round three win, as well as Roy Glenn and Neil Simpson, who each posted two cut wins, began to emerge as contenders. Brian Seymour was also flying steady through three rounds. Going into the final round it was Louis with 1960 points followed by Phil (1750pts), Lloyd (1650pts), Roy (1645pts) with Neil, Jeff and Brian all with 1540 points. Paul Kubek and Ken Hargreaves were also within striking distance. Early in round four Paul posted a three cut win over Aaron Seymour to get himself well into contention. In the very next match Neil and Ken had an exciting match that ended in a two cuts apiece draw. In the next match Brian and Jeff had a great match that ended in a mid-air, very late, hurting both their chances. In the semi final match Phil earned a three cut win over Roy in a match that was extremely well flown. In the final Lloyd and Louis waged war, however, after some good early action the match ended in a mid-air. When the dust settled Phil was the clear winner, Paul and Louis were tied for second and Neil was just off their pace in fourth. Louis won the fly-off for second with Paul, it took two matches and both were well flown. The sportsman division winner was Aaron Seymour.
Thank you to Phil Cartier, Louis Lopez and Roy Glenn who made long trips to get to the contest and made it better through their participation. Special thanks to Phil who donated some Corehouse "Gotcha" t-shirts as raffle prizes.
