JAKE VADER WINS SPORTSMAN

JULY 8, 2012– MIDDLEBORO, MA – This year’s Eastern Mass Invitational attracted eight pilots for a Formula GX showdown. The weather was sunny and quite warm with a light breeze. A great day for combat.

Following round one action Ken Hargreaves was setting the pace followed closely by Jake Vader and Neil Simpson. In round two Ken and Jake faced off against each other and flew to a one cut apiece draw. It was action filled with both pilots giving a good account of themselves. Next, Neil faced off against Joe Fustolo and, after some good action early, Neil was taken out by equipment failure leaving him with a low score and Joe with a airtime win. In the next match Brian Stas stormed into contention with a two cut win over Glenn Simpson. At the halfway point Brian had the lead followed closely by Ken and Jake. Joe was flying steady and was also quite close to the leaders. In round three Brian got a one cut win over Ken and Joe got past Jake two cuts to one. Neil also began to climb back into the hunt with a one cut win over Jeff Vader in a match that was a full five minute war. Meanwhile, Glenn Simpson had made his presence known with a two cut win over Chris Sarnowski. The final three round four matches would be meaningful. In the first Neil put pressure on the leaders with a 830 point win over Glenn. Next Ken and Joe flew to a low scoring draw in a match that was action filled and well flown despite the low score. In the final Brian and Jake flew to a one cut apiece draw. The final order of finish was Brian, Neil, Joe, Jake and Ken. Jake, who finished fourth overall, took home the Sportsman “gold”, in the process.
