JUNE 24, 2007 – EAST HAMPTON, CT – This was the fourth annual Len Minick Memorial Combat Challenge held in tribute to and in memory of our good friend and fellow competitor. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny with a gentle breeze. Seven contestants made the trip to the Salmon River State Forest and enjoyed a day of very competitive combat.
Round one saw Jeff Vader get off to good start posting a two cut win in round one. Neil Simpson, Rick Clark and Ken Hargreaves also posted good round one wins. In the first match of round two Jeff and Neil had a very exciting match with Neil earning a two cut win of his own. In the next match Ken Hargreaves got a one cut win over Rick Clark. At the halfway point it was Neil (1345pts), Ken (1140pts), Jeff (1025pts) with Rick and Paul Kubek both with 920 points. In the first match of round three Neill and Ken flew to a one cut apiece draw. Next, Jeff earned a two cut win over Paul. Going into the final round it was Neil (1855 pts), Jeff (1750pts), Ken (1650pts), and Rick (1440pts). In the semi-final Ken earned a two cut to one victory over Jeff. In the final Rick flew Neil to a one cut apiece draw. The final order of finish was Ken (2375pts), Neil (2365pts), Jeff (2150pts) and Rick (1950pts). The sportsman division winner was Vinnie Langella from Meriden, Connecticut.
