JUNE 19, 2005 – FRANKLIN, NH – The first annual Granite State Championships drew eight competitors. The event was hosted and cd’ed by Jeff Vader. Jeff had coffee and doughnuts waiting for everyone as we arrived. This reporter really appreciated the hot black coffee while “Officer Stas” was in awe of the wide selection of doughnuts. So many flavors, that even he, couldn’t manage one of each. Weather conditions were warm, not hot, with partly cloudy skies and a light breeze.

Round one saw Dick Sherman and Glenn Simpson get off to fast starts with 830 point wins. Dick and Glenn faced off in round two with Dick getting the win three cuts to one. At the half way point Dick had 1660 points while the rest of the pack was sitting in the 900 to 1100 point range. In round three Dick stayed hot with a one cut win over Ken Hargreaves giving him a commanding contest lead. The rest of the pack was battling for the remaining trophy spots. In the final matches Brian Stas and Ken battled to a low scoring draw while Dick and Neil did the same. The final order of finish was Dick, Neil, Brian and Jeff Vader.

Shaylene Vader got the sportsman win in a closely contested battle with Richard “Lil Sherm” Sherman. These kids continue to show great improvement and it wont be long before they start making some noise outside their division.
